Teachers of different non-government schools in Barisal observed a token hunger strike yesterday in the city to push for their various demands including job nationalisation.
The token hunger strike started from 11am to 3pm.
Bangladesh Shikkhak Samittee (BSS) Barisal district unit organised the programme in from of Barisal Aswini Kumar Town Hall.
Their others demands are: more budget allocation for non government education sector, increment, implementation of time-scale, sufficient medical allowance , house rent etc.
Abdul Khalek Hawladar, president of BSS Barisal district unit, presided over the meeting. Tofael Ahmed, Faridul Alam, Das Gupta Ashis, Swapan Kumar Baul, Siddikur Rahman spoke, among others. A large number of teachers of non government school attended the programme.
The speakers said at least thirty per cent of the national budget must be allotted for education sector as education is the backbone of the nation.
They also demanded that education sector must be nationalised and the government would regularise the jobs of all non-government teachers immediately.
