Pro-Awami League 'yellow' panel swept the Chittagong University Teachers' Association (CUTA) elections bagging all 11 posts.
Prof Dr Mihir Kumar Ray of physics department was elected as president with 361 votes against Prof Dr Abdul Mannan of Chemistry department who secured 261 votes.
On the other hand, Prof Dr Md Muazzom Hossain of management department was elected as general secretary with 421 against Professor Dr Md. Shafiqul Islam of Institute of Marine Science and Fisheries who secured 212 votes respectively in the elections held yesterday.
Chief Election Commissioner and Professor of Institute of Forestry and Environmental Science Prof Dr Md Mohiuddin announced the results yesterday evening.
Pro-BNP and Jamaat-e-Islami teachers backed white panel faced debacle in the polls as yellow panel won all 11 posts-president, general secretary, vice-president, joint secretary, treasurer and six executive committee members.
A total of 826 votes out of 887 were cast in the polls.
Besides, at this year CUTA arranged advanced vote on April 20 and 23.
Meanwhile, CU Vice-chancellor Prof Dr Iftekhar Uddin Chowdhury and Pro-VC Prof Shirin Akhter congratulated the newly-elected office bearers of CUTA and hoped that the newly elected CUTA leaders would contribute to uphold the spirits and ideals of the Liberation War.
