Two much-acclaimed plays ‘Mohajoner Nao’ and ‘Court Martial’ by two prominent theatre troupes will be staged today evening at two separate venues of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy, Segun Bagicha in the capital. The plays will be brought on the stage as a part of the ongoing five-day theatre festival organised by BSA Workers’ Union.
Shubachan Natya Shangshad will stage their acclaimed theatrical production ‘Mohajoner Nao’ today at 7pm at the Experimental Hall of BSA, while Theatre Art Unit will stage their much-talked-about play ‘Court Martial’ at the BSA’s National Theatre Hall at the same time.
The story of ‘Mohajoner Nao’, based on the life and philosophy of the late Baul Samrat Shah Abdul Karim, is written by Shakoor Majid and directed as well as choreographed by Sudip Chakroborty. The Baul Samrat showed signs of his musical talents from a young age, and though his schooling was not extensive, he went on to become one of the most acclaimed folk musicians of his time, who wrote and composed over 1600 songs. Six books have been published by the Bangla Academy till the date of his songs, and ten of his songs have also been translated into English and published as a separate compilation by the Academy.
On the other hand, Theatre Art Unit’s ‘Court Martial’ has been adapted from the Marathi playwright Sawdesh Dipak’s play with the same title.
The play is translated by Salil Sarkar, transcreated and directed by SM Solaiman and Mohammad Bari oversees the directorial aspects of the play now. The play depicts the fact that man cannot hold back the inherent jealousy and cruelty through staging an imaginary court martial.
However, Cultural Minister Asaduzzaman Noor inaugurated the festival on Monday.
To note, supported by Ministry of Cultural Affairs and BSA, bring two plays to the stage every day, the five-day theatre festival will be continued till April 28. l
