‘Halima mentioned OC’s apathy in her diary’

Police Constable Halima Khatun, who recently committed suicide by setting herself on fire inside Gouripur police station in Mymensingh, was turned down an appeal to file a general diary over her rape allegedly by a sub-inspector, report agencies. Halima's father freedom fighter Helal Uddin Akhond made the allegation at a press conference in Mymensingh district headquarters on Monday.
On Apr 2, the 25-year-old Halima set herself on fire inside her work station Gouripur Police Station.
Colleagues took her to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital from where she was being transferred to Dhaka and succumbed to her injuries on the way.
Her father Helal Uddin filed a case the next day accusing Sub-Inspector Md Mizanul Islam of raping Halima and provoking her to commit suicide. SI Mizan is behind the bars following a court order.
The officer in-charge of Gouripur police station, Delwar Hossain, refused to accept a formal complaint from Halima, freedom fighter Helal told journalists at the briefing.
He showed reporters two pages from Halima's diary and a copy of the general diary that he claimed was rejected. “Halima would have been alive today if OC Delwar took proper actions following her GD," he added. "Mizanul raped Halima during the wee hours of Mar 18. SI Ripon, SI Khalequzzaman, SI Hasan and their accomplices made fun of her after the incident. Halima informed the matter to the OC but he remained silent," he further said. OC Delwar, however, denied the claim. "Mizanul told me that Halima verbally assaulted him, a claim that Halima denied. Since now a case is on, we will soon get to know the facts," he told bdnews24.com.
DB OC Imarot Hossain Gazi, investigation officer, said: "The evidences have been collected and sent to Dhaka for medical examination."
