4 killed in Comilla road crash
Comilla: Four people, including a couple, were killed and two others injured as a bus crashed into a CNG-run auto-rickshaw carrying them on Noakhali-Comilla Regional Highway in Sadar Dakkhin upazila on Monday night, reports UNB.
The deceased were identified as Abdur Razzak,35, his wife Jharna Begum, 35, and mother-in-law (wife’s mother) Joyneb Nesa, 55, of Gandamara village of Laksam upazila in the district, and auto-rickshaw driver Bachchu Miah while the injured are Razzak’s son Raju, 7, and his relative Ishaq Miah.
Highway police super of Comilla region Paritosh Mondal said the Noakhali-bound bus hit the three-wheeler from the opposite direction on the road at Borol around 9pm, leaving three passengers of the auto-rickshaw dead on the spot and three others—Bachchu, Raju and Ishaq—injured.
The injured were taken to Laksam Upazila Health Complex from where Bachchu and Ishaq were shifted to Comilla Medical College Hospital where Bachchu died, said the SP.
Smuggled Indian sarees seized

Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) seized 205 pieces of Indian sarees worth Tk 20.4 lakh from a passenger terminal area here on Monday night.
On information, a team of Integrated Check Post (ICP) of BGB-49 battalion conducted a drive there and seized the abandoned sarees, said camp commander of Benapole suvedar Wahab. The sarees were deposited to Benapole Customs House. A case was filed.
Hit by tree branches, 13 train
passengers injured

At least 13 passengers of a Mymensingh bound train were injured as they were hit by broken branches of trees yesterday. The injured were admitted to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital in critical condition.
Md Abdul Mannan Farazi, officer-in-charge of Mymensingh Railway Police Station said the passengers who were traveling by Mahua Express Train bound for Mymensingh from Dhaka were hit by branches of trees broken during Monday night’s storm in the residential area of Bangladesh Institute of Nuclear Agriculture (BINA) on BAU campus.
All of the injured who were sitting on the rooftop of the train fell down getting hit by the branches of trees, the OC added. Hearing their scream, local people rushed to the spot, rescued the injured and rushed them to the hospital.
The officials of Mymensingh Railway visited the spot and injured persons in the hospital.
Body recovered in Nilphamari

The body of a class IV student was recovered from a village in Saidpur upazila of Nilphamari district yesterday.
The body of the deceased Mahabubul Alam, 11, son of Motiar Rahman of Dhonagachha village was found in a paddy field at noon.
UP member Md Mominur Rahman told The Independent that the victim was missing for more than eight hours. The victim went to irrigate the paddy field on Monday and might have contacted with a live electricity wire.
Yesterday his body was found lying on the ground entangled with live electric wire.
‘Jhut’ godown gutted in fire
Narsingdi: A godown of jhut (garment scraps) along Dhaka-Sylhet highway in Saheb Protap area of the district town caught fire early yesterday, reports UNB.
Selim Miah, station officer of Narsingdi Fire Station, said the fire at the godown broke out around 4:30am from an electric short-circuit, burning down huge garment scraps.
On information, three units of firefighters from Sadar, Madhabdi and Shibpur fire services rushed in and doused the fire around 9:30 am.
