Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) yesterday protested the killing of a Bangladeshi youth by Indian Border Security Force (BSF) in Gilabari frontier area in Bholahat upazila of Chapainawabganj district on Sunday night.
They protested in a battalion commander level flag meeting held between BGB and BSF in Tangon Mohona area of Bholahat upazila.
BGB sources said commanding officer of 59 battalion of BGB Lieutenant Colonnel Rashed Ali said BGB protested the killing and demanded compensation for the deceased and punishment to those who were responsible for the killing.
Afterwards, BSF commandant assured of proper measures and also alleged that Bangladeshi smugglers cut barbed wire at different places of the frontier.
Besides this, different bilateral issues like stoppage of border firing, killing, checking smuggled arms, drugs and explosives, checking intrusion, ensuring border security and conducting coordinated patrol on the frontier were also discussed in a cordial and peaceful environment, sources added.BGB team was led by the commanding officer of 59 battalion of BGB Lieutenant Colonnel Md Rashed Ali while the Indian team was led by the commandant of 82 battalion of BSF Shree Rajes Kumar. Earlier, a youth identified as Saidul Islam, 28, son of Erfan Ali of Shikari village in Bholahat upazila of Chapainawabganj was shot dead on Gilabari frontier allegedly by the BSF on Sunday night.
Quoting father of the deceased, officer-in-charge of Bholahat police station Mohsin Reza said members of BSF fired on a group of cattle traders of the area as they tried to enter India through the border around 10 pm. At this, Saidul received bullet injury and died on the spot. On information, police recovered the body on Monday and sent it to Chapainawabganj Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy.
