CUTA elections today

The election to the executive bodies of the Chittagong University Teachers Association (CUTA) will be held today.

Two panels will vie in the elections. These are pro-liberation and ruling party-backed progressive teachers under ‘Yellow Panel’ and pro-BNP and Jamaat- e-Islami teachers under ‘White Panel’ are contesting the election.
According to the official sources, the election will be held at social science faculty auditorium on the day from 9am to 1pm. About 887 teachers will cast their votes against 11 posts.
The “Yellow Panel” candidates are: Prof Dr Mihir Kumar Ray of physics department (president), Prof Dr Md Mahbubul Haque of History deparment (vice president), assistant professor Abdul Haque of Geography and Environment Department (treasurer), Prof Dr Md Muazzom Hossain of management department (secretary general) and assistant Prof Madhab Chandra Das of Communication and Journalism dept (joint secretary general).  
On the other hand the “White Panel” candidates are- Prof Dr Abdul Mannan of Chemistry department (president), Prof Dr Mohammed Akhter Hossain of Institute of Forestry and Environmental Science (vice president), Assistant Professor Bazlur Rahman of Marketing department (Treasurer), Professor Dr. Md. Shafiqul Islam of Institute of Marine Science and Fisheries (secretary general) and Assistant Professor Md Sher Mahmud of Soil Science Department (joint secretary general).
Chief Election Commissioner and Professor of Institute of Forestry and Environmental Science Prof Dr Md Mohiuddin said, “All preparations are complete to hold the polls.
