BNP leader hacked to death
Chuadanga: A local BNP leader was hacked to death by a group of miscreants over previous enmity at Railjagannathpur village in Alamdanga upazila on Saturday morning, reports UNB.
Shawkat Ali Faraji, 57, son of late Nawaz Ali Faraji, president of ward no. 6 of Kalidaspur union parishad unit of BNP, had a longstanding dispute with the neighbours, said officer-in-charge Akram Hossain of Alamdanga Police Station.
In the latest incident of the dispute, a group of miscreants hacked Shawkat indiscriminately while he was working at his maize field around 11 am, leaving him dead on the spot.
On information, police recovered the body around 3 pm and sent it to Chuadanga Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy, the OC added.
Two ‘Jamaat activists’ arrested

Police in a drive detained two suspected female members of Jamaat-e-Islami from Chutarhuda village under Chaugachha upazila on Saturday evening.
The detainees are Ferdousi Begum, wife of Tushar Hossain, and Reksona Begum, wife of Khidir Ali, of Chaugachha village.
Officer-in-Charge of Chaugachha Police Station M Mashiur Rahman said: “Acting on a tip-off, police raided a house at Chutarhuda village around 6 pm while a group of female Jamaat members was holding a secret meeting.
“Police picked Ferdousi and Reksona up from the meeting venue while other women managed to flee the scene, sensing the presence of the law enforcers.”
Later, police recovered Islamic leaflets and Jihadi books from the possession of the detainees.

Disable people get assistive devices in Gaibandha
GAIBANDHA: A total of 100 persons with disabilities of the district got assistive devices free of cost from a local Non Government Organization Gana Unnayan Kendra (GUK) on Saturday, reports BSS.
A simple function organized by GUK was held at its conference room at Nasratpur under Sadar upazila on Saturday afternoon in cooperation with Center for Disability in Development, European Union, and Light for the World, The Netherlands.
Superintendent of police (SP) M. Masrukur Rahman Khaled attended the function and addressed it as the chief guest while executive chief Abdus Salam presided over the ceremony.
The function was also addressed, among others, by Officer- in-Charge of Sadar Thana AKM Mehedi Hasan, and coordinators of GUK Aftab Hossain and Akhil Chandra.
Speaking at the function, SP Masrukur Rahman Khaled said the persons with disabilities are not burden on society; they are assets of the nation.
