On the occasion of celebrating 37 years of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy Workers’ Union, a five-day theatre festival is set to kick off today on the premises of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy (BSA), Segun Bagicha in the capital.
Cultural Affairs Minister Asaduzzaman Noor will inaugurate the festival today at 5pm. Presided over by BSA Workers’ Union president SM Salauddin, noted thespian Ramendu Majumdar, BSA Director General Liaquat Ali Lucky, Bangladesh Group Theatre Federation Secretary General Akhtaruzzaman and BSA Secretary Jahangir Hossain Chowdhury will be present as special guests.
With the titled ‘Shilpa-Sangskriti-Srijanshilata, Joy Joy Joy Manobata’, the five-day festival has been dedicated to recently demised singer Lucky Akhand.
Bringing two plays on stage every day at 7pm, the festival will stage ten theatrical productions by ten theatre troupes at the National Theatre Hall and Experimental Theatre Hall of BSA.
Today, after the inauguration, prominent troupe Theatre will stage their much-acclaimed production ‘Meraj Fakirer Maa’ at the Experimental Hall at 7pm, while Mohakal Natya Sampraday will bring their play ‘Shikhandi Kotha’ on stage at the National Theatre Hall of BSA at the same time.
Besides, popular troupes like Natya Kendra, Nagarik Natyangan, Theatre Art Unit, PrangoneMor, LokoNatyadal, Subochan Natya Sangsad, Aranyak Natyadal, Prachyanaut will also stage their plays during five-day festival.
Supported by Ministry of Cultural Affairs and BSA, the festival will be continued till April 28. l
