The government yesterday extended the time limit for this year’s Hajj registration till Tuesday (April 25). Earlier, the government had fixed April 23 as the last date for registration of hajj pilgrims. Religious Affairs Minister Principal Motiur Rahman announced this when the newly elected officials of Hajj Agent Association of Bangladesh (HAAB) went to meet him at his residence in the capital yesterday evening.
The minister also informed the HAAB leaders that he talked with the authorities concerned of Haram Sharif to increase the quota to accommodate additional 50,000 more Bangladeshis intending to perform hajj.
“Our Prime Minister is also trying to increase the quota so that more Bangladeshis can perform hajj in Saudi Arabia,” the minister informed the HAAB leaders. Newly elected HAAB leaders Abdus Sobhan Bhuiyan, Tajul Islam, Shahadat Hossain, Advocate Abdullah Al Naser, Moulana Mahbubur Rahman, SM Ibrahim, Ruhul Amin Mintu, Moulana Yakub Sharafati, Wahdul Alam, Akbar Hossain Manju, Abdus Salam Aref, Abdul Hamid, Fazlur Rahman, Md Solaiman, Golam Mostafa and Abu Taher, among others, were present during the meeting.
Chairman of Parliamentary Standing Committee on Religious Affairs Ministry Bazlul Haque, MP, Religious Affairs Secretary Abdul Jalil, Hajj Director Syful Islam and other high officials also attended the meeting.
This year, a total of 1, 17,758 people will go to Saudi Arabia under private management to perform Hajj.
There are 1,134 Hajj agents across the country who have licences to send pilgrims to perform Hajj and Umrah.
Of them, 487 Hajj agencies were able to enter the registration server system of the government till Sunday evening and only 51,337 pilgrims’ information forms were completed.
