Boiler blast death toll now 8

With the death of more four critically injured labourers yesterday at Dhaka and Rangpur, the death toll in Dinajpur boiler blast incident rose to eight, police and hospital sources said.
Seven of the eight deceased rice mill laborers succumbed to their injuries at the Burn Unit of Rangpur Medical College Hospital (RMCH) while another died at the Burn Unit of Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH).
“Critically injured Ranjeet Kumar, 50, died at DMCH at 3 am, Mukul, 46, died at 4:30 pm, Shafikul Islam, 20, died at 1:30 am and Uday Chandra, 30, died at 12:30 noon yesterday at RMCH,” said Head of the Department of Burn and Plastic Surgery at the RMCH Dr Maruful Islam.

3 killed in Ctg by lightning
Three people, including a woman, were killed in separate incidents of lightning strike in  Chittagong on Saturday morning.
In Sandwip, M Didar, 36, son of Abdul Baten, and Sanaullah, 30, son of Nizamuddin, residents of Kalapaniya in the upazila, were struck by a thunderbolt while bringing their cattle home around 11: 15am and died on the spot. In Fatikchhari, Hoor Banu, 35, wife of Abdur Razzak of Amtali village, was killed by a lightning strike while working at the yard of her house around 11: 20 am.

Man held with 7.2 kg gold 
Customs officials during a drive arrested a man along with gold bars weighing 7.2 kilograms at Shah Amanat International Airport in the city on Saturday evening.
Saifuddin, a resident of Raujan upazila, landed at the airport at7:34 am from Dhaka riding a plane of Regent Airways. Customs officials challenged Saifuddin while he was crossing the green channel of the airport and recovered the gold bars concealed in his bag, said airport manage Wing Commander M Riazul Kabir.

Workshop on diversity held
Flourishing leadership among youths has become indispensable for protecting and conserving diversity and environment in the drought-prone Barind area.
Time has come to improving their knowledge so that they can raise their voice for time-befitting and effective measures for diversity and environment conservation in the dried region.
The observations came at a daylong workshop titled “Diversity and Youth Leadership” held in the conference hall of Public Library in Rajshahi city on Saturday.

Immunisation week begins today
Speakers here have stressed the need for collective efforts of all concerned to make the World Immunisation Week- 2017, to be observed from April 24-30, a total success.
They viewed making the week successful can be the vital means of saving lives of children. So, all concerned should discharge their duties with utmost sincerity and honesty. Rajshahi City Corporation (RCC) organised the zonal advocacy meeting in its conference hall on Saturday for discussing the ways and means to make the week a complete success.
