Nazmul Hassan Papon, president of Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), said that they are going to take some effective measures to develop the standard of umpiring in the domestic cricket.
The sub-standard umpiring at lower level cricket of the country raised the question of the standard of the umpiring. Along with that, some umpiring decision in the previous Dhaka Premier League (DPLs) triggered some controversies around the world.
In these aspects, the board talked with International Cricket Council (ICC) to train up the local umpires and match referees.
“We have to give top preference to umpires and match referees considering the future of the country’s cricket. For this we have to make them powerful in technically and tactically on the basis of knowledge,” Nazmul Hassan said.
“We will give them proper training. For this we have talked with ICC so they could help us necessarily in this regard,” Hassan told reporters.
“Along with that, we will keep an assessment test for the umpires and match referees. We could promote them on the basis of the result,” he added.
Before the board meeting, Nazmul Hassan along with other board directors sat with the umpires and match referees and discussed with them on different issues. Consulting with them, the board appointed director Sheikh Sohel as the new Umpires Committee Chairman.
Apart form that, the board decided to increase 20 percent salary for the umpires and match referees.
BCB boss said that they will set camera all the matches of the premier league to minimize the amount of controversy.
“We have already set three cameras in DPL matches. And so, we are yet to receive any controversy from the league,” he informed.
He said that they in principle decided to emphasize on lower-level cricket.
“We have decided that we will give an equal focus on country’s lower-level cricket competition so that we could avert the controversy from the primary level,” BCB president told.
