Inter-university students’ conference and cultural contest
The Department of English at ULAB organised its 3rd Inter-University Students’ Conference and Cultural Competition on Friday to commemorate the 200th death anniversary of British novelist Jane Austen at ULAB auditorium, says a press release.
Titled ‘200 Years of Jane Austen,’ the event featured student paper presentation and cultural competition. Fourteen public and private universities, including BRAC University, Dhaka University, East West University, North South University and ULAB, participated in the academic session.
Professor Fakrul Alam of Dhaka University, Professor Kamaluddin Ahmed of Chittagong University and Professor Mobasshera Khanam of National University judged the academic papers on the first day.
Two best papers selected by the judges received a monetary prize. In the cultural competition, five universities are competing with each other for the honour. Renowned actress Suborna Musthafa and Dhaka University’s Theater and Performance Studies Department’s Professor Sudip Chakroborthy judged the cultural competition.
IU Kamil exams begin today
KUSHTIA: The Kamil first part examinations-2015 under the Islamic University (IU) in Kushtia will begin today while its second part examinations will start on Monday, said a press release.
IU Acting Controller of Examinations AK Azad Lavlu said the examinations will start at 10 am and end at 2 pm following the schedule. It will be held at 130 centers across the country. More than 18,000 students from both parts will seat for the exams, he added. Controller office sources said the first part and second part examinations will be ended on May 5 and 7 respectively. RULAA recalls Prof Badruddin
Rajshahi: Rajshahi University Law Alumni Association (RULAA) organised a commemorating programme on Prof M Badruddin, former dean of Law faculty of Rajshahi University (RU) at Shaheed Sukhranjan Samaddar Teachers-Students Cultural Centre (TSCC) on the campus on Friday.
Earlier, a mourning rally was brought out from the TSCC premises that ended at the same place after parading through the main streets of the campus. Chief advisor of RULAA Justice Sayeed Mohammad Dastagir Hossain, Justice SM Emdadul Haque, former general secretary of RULAA Justice Mohammad Ullah, dean of Law faculty Abu Naser Md Wahid and former dean of Law faculty AFM Mahsin addressed the programme.
President of RULAA Anup Kumar Saha chaired the function while general secretary Minhazul Haque Chowdhury moderated it. Speakers prayed for salvation of his departed soul and conveyed deep sympathy to the bereaved family members of the late professor. It is noted that Prof M Badruddin died at a hospital in Dhaka on Thursday while he was undergoing treatment.
