Speakers here called upon the bankers to play role towards promoting system of E-Government Procurement (e-GP), reports BSS.
They viewed successful promotion of the electronic system can be the effective means of ensuring transparency and accountability in public procurement for the sake of best uses of the public money and proper implementation of the uplift programmes. Government has a priority to modernise Bangladesh and achieve a shared vision for a Digital Bangladesh by 2021. So, wide-ranging promotion of the modern system in banking sector has become an urgent need. The observation came in a
seminar titled “Role of Banks in e-GP and Way Forward” held at conference hall of Deputy Commissioner on Thursday.
Central Procurement Technical Unit (CPTU) under the Implementation Monitoring and Evaluation Division (IMED) under Planning Ministry organized the workshop.
Main thrust of the seminar was to strengthen awareness about e-GP and facilitate its adoption among the tender bidders and government procuring entities through banks.
Government procuring entities, officials from 30 banks and media representatives participated in the meeting sharing knowledge and experiences on the issue.
Director General of CPTU Faruque Hossain addressed the seminar as chief guest with Deputy Commissioner Kazi Ashraf Uddin in the chair.
Additional Chief Engineer of Local Government Engineering Department Ali Ahmed and Deputy Director of Local Government Division Dr Dewan Shahriar Firoj also spoke.
During his keynote presentation, Shafiul Alam, Communication Consultant of CPTU, gave an overview of the e-GP system and its nationwide promotional scenario.
