‘Ensure healthcare for the poor’

Speakers here stressed for collaborative efforts to infuse dynamism into the essential health care services to the poor and distressed mothers and infants, reports BSS.
The observations came in a daylong workshop styled “GoB-Surjer Hasi Coordination” at Brac Learning Centre in the city recently. In the brand name of ‘smiling sun health clinic’, USAID-DFID NGO Health Service Delivery Project (NHSDP) and Tilottama jointly organized the workshop. Additional Commissioner of Rajshahi division Aminul Islam and Assistant Director (Disease Control) of Divisional Director of Health Office Dr Ishmat Ara addressed the workshop as chief and special guests with Dr. Halida Hanum Akhter, Chief of Party of NHSDP, in the chair.
Civil Surgeon Dr Sanjit Kumar Saha, Chief Health Officer of Rajshahi City Corporation Dr AFM Anjuman Ara Begum, Divisional Deputy Director of Department of Secondary
and Higher Education Dr Shormin Ferdous Chowdhury, Assistant Director of Department of Family Planning Tasiqul Haque and Deputy Director of Department of Social Services Rubina Yeasmin also spoke.
Issues like increasing access to essential services especially among poor women, young women, newborns and under five children, improving healthy behaviors and care seeking practices and enhancing ownership of service delivery were discussed elaborately in the workshop.During concept paper presentation, Afjalur Rashid Palash, Project Director of Tilottama, narrated services for promoting birth preparedness, saving lives of mother and neonatal, serving underserved population and access to unmarried adolescents in educational institutions.
