77 BNP teams formed to visit organisational districts

RAFIQUL ISLAM AZAD

The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has formed 77 teams to visit the 77 organisational districts of the party across the country to review the process of their reorganisation and report on their overall progress, said party sources. The teams are headed by members of the standing committee and the advisory council as well as vice-chairmen. These have been formed in an attempt to know the real strength and capacity of the party as its rank and file has faced a huge number of cases and various obstacles, following the January 5 general elections. The teams have been asked to visit the districts from April 22 to May 7 and submit their reports to party chairperson Khaleda Zia on the overall situation in the districts concerned after completing their tours, said the sources. A BNP leader, who preferred anonymity, said, “The office has already sent letters signed by party secretary-general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir to the leaders concerned.” Central leaders of the relevant districts would also join the teams during their visits to their respective districts, he added.
The leader said the team leaders would attend conferences and meetings in the respective districts and submit reports on the overall organisational affairs after completion of their visit by May 7. BNP standing committee member Dr Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain confirmed that the party has formed the teams as part of routine organisational work. He also said he would visit greater Chittagong during the organisational tour. Asked when he would go to Chittagong, he said the district committee would determine the schedule.
BNP joint secretary-general Syed Moazzem Hossain Alal said as part of the organisational trips, he would visit Jessore. “I have not received any letter yet in this respect. But I have been informed over telephone from the party office,” he said. The BNP leader said the objective of the tour was to know the party’s overall organisational situation at the grassroots level. BNP organising secretary Ruhul Quddus Talukder Dulu said as part of the organisational tour, he would go to Chuadanga and Bagerhat.
