Renowned singer-composer Lucky Akhand passed away yesterday at the age of 61, reports UNB. Lucky Akhand breathed his last at his Armanitola residence in the capital around 6 pm after suffering from lung cancer for over a year. Singer Fahmida Nabi posted a status on her Facebook wall announcing the death of Lucky Akhand. He was diagnosed with grade-IV lung cancer in 2015. Akhand started his career with self-titled solo album 'Lucky Akhand' in 1984 under the banner of Sargam. Some of the notable songs of Lucky are ‘Agey Jodi Jantam’, ‘Amay Dekona’, ‘Mamonia’, ‘Ei Neel Monihar’ and ‘Hridoy Amar’. He won the first prize in “Modern Bangla Songs” category from the Pakistan Art Council in 1969. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina expressed deep shock at the death of eminent singer-composer and freedom fighter Lucky Akhand. In a condolence message, she recalled the contribution of Lucky Akhand to the field of music and the Liberation War. Sheikh Hasina prayed for eternal peace of the departed soul and conveyed profound sympathy to the bereaved family members.
