2 killed, 15 injured in clash
Comilla: Two people were killed and 15 others, including a union parishad (UP) member, injured in a clash between two rival groups over establishing control at Rahimpur in Muradnagar upazilaon Tuesday night.
Officer-in-charge of Muradnagar Police Station SM Badiuzzaman said supporters of the two groups—one led by local UP member Ashraf Ali and the other led by Alauddin Anis—had been in loggerheads over control of the area.
In a sequel to the rivalry, the two groups locked into a clash around11:15 pmand fought a pitched battle, leaving 17 people injured, the OC added.
The injured were taken to Muradnagar Upazila Health complex where doctors declared Faruk and Saidur dead. 
Additional policemen have been deployed in the area to ward off further trouble.

Fish trader gunned down 
Chuadanga: A fish trader was shot to death by miscreants over previous enmity at Kayetpara village in Alamdanga upazila early yesterday, reports UNB.
Police said a group of 10/12 miscreants opened fire on Ziaur Rahman, 40, son of late Abul Hossain, around 3:30 am while he was returning home from his fish enclosure, leaving him dead on the spot.
On information, police recovered the body around 9:30 am from a paddy field and sent it to Sadar Hospital for autopsy, said Additional Superintendent of Police Belayet Hossain.
Ziaur was the president of Kayetpara Baor Fisheries Samity, Belayet said, adding that he might have been killed over Baor-related dispute.
Meanwhile, police arrested one Selim over the incident.

4 held with foreign currencies

Customs officials arrested four Bangladeshi people at Benapole check post for carrying USD 21,000 and a huge amount of Indian currency without documents yesterday morning.
Tipped off that a group of people will be carry foreign currencies illegally, customs officials challenged Kabir Khan, 30, and Zaman Khan, residents of Manikganj district, Barkat Ali, 38, and Ujjal Bepari, 32, residents of Shariatpur district, while they were crossing the check post.
Later, the officials recovered the foreign currencies concealed in their bags, said Director General of Customs Intelligence and Investigation Directorate (CIID) Moinul Khan here.

Child marriage foiled in Faridpur
FARIDPUR: A mobile court here foiled a child marriage bid in sadar upazila of the district on Tuesday night, reports BSS.
Locals said the preparation of marriage between Lamiya Akter, 14, and Riaz Hawladar, 17, of the Laxmipur village was going on at a family occasion on Tuesday night. Lamiya Akter is a student of class five.
Being informed, a mobile court led by Provangshu Shome Mohan, Faridpur Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer, rushed to Guho Laxmipur Rail slum with police and foiled the marriage bid. Provangshu Shome Mohan said, “some locals protested the matter and sought help to stop the unlawful marriage. On information, we reached to the girl’s house immediately.”
Sensing the presence of the mobile court, the parents of both sides fled away.

Youth held with yaba tablets

Police in a drive arrested a ‘drug peddler’ along with 3,200 pieces of yaba tablets at Kana Pukur in Abhoynagar upazila on Tuesday night.
Tipped off, police conducted a drive at Kana Pukur around 10 pm and arrested Zakir Hossain, 28, son of late Rahmat Mandol of Narayanpur village.
The law enforcers then recovered 3,200 pieces of the contraband pills from his possession.
A case was filed.
