Man gets life term for killing minor

RANGPUR: A court here yesterday sentenced one person to life term rigorous imprisonment for murdering a minor boy at Khamarpara area in the city on July 17, 2008, reports BSS.
Judge Noresh Chandra Sarker of the Special Tribunal of Rangpur handed down the verdict in presence of convict Nazmul Haque.
The court also fined Nazmul Taka 25,000, or in default, to suffer more three year rigorous imprisonment. The court acquitted another accused of the case Shahidul Islam as the charges brought against him were not proved during hearing of the case. According to prosecution, a group of local minor boys were taking bathe in the pond of one Advocate Abu Taleb at Khamarpara area in the city on July 17, 2008. At one stage, gateman Shahidul Islam of the advocate's house asked the boys to leave the pond when the boys started to leave the pond. 
But, accused Nazmul Haque of Khamarpara area caught Rakib, 8, son of Aynal Miah of the same area and started beating him mercilessly with a wooden stick killing him on the spot.
Being informed, Kotwali police rushed there, recovered the body and conducted its autopsy at Rangpur Medical College Hospital morgue. 
Aynal Haque, the victim's father, filed a murder case with Kotwali Thana on the same day . After investigation into the case, Kotwali Thana police submitted charge sheet against Shahidul Islam and Nazmul Haque before the court when the trial began.  After examining 13 witnesses of the case during hearing, the court found accused Nazmul guilty and announced the verdict against him and acquitted another accused Shahidul in his absentia. Special Public Prosecutor Advocate Rothish Chandra Bhowmick stood for the state while senior lawyer Advocate Abul Hossain defended the accused side.
