Historic Nazirpur Day was observed yesterday at Nazirpur under Kalmakanda upazila of the district paying rich tributes to the memories of seven valiant freedom fighters who laid down their lives during the liberation war in 1971, reports BSS from Netrakona. The seven martyred freedom fighters are; Dr. Abdul Aziz, Mohamamd Fazlul Haque, Mohammad Year Mahmud, Bhabotush Chandra Das, Mohammad Nuruzzaman, Dizendra Chandra Biswas and Mohammad Jamaluddin.
Netrakona district administration, district Muktizoddha Sangsad and Kalmakanda upazila Muktizoddha Sangsad jointly took elaborate programmes to observe the day. Freedom fighters from different parts of greater Mymensing region including Netrakona district, led by Chairman of Bangladesh Muktizoddha Sangsad Central Command Council Major General (Retd) Halal Murshed Khan (Bir-Bikrom) and local MP Chabi Biswas placed wreaths at the war monument and graveyards of the martyred freedom fighters in the morning. Chabi Biswas, MP, spoke as the chief guest while Maj Gen (Retd) Halal Murshed Khan (Bir-Bikrom) was the main speaker. Deputy Commissioner, Netrakona Dr Torun Kanti Shikder, Additional Police Super, Netrakona Habibur Rahman Pramanik also spoke on the occasion. The speakers recalled the great contributions of the seven martyred freedom fighters in the War of Liberation.
