Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) inked a three-year-deal with Australian coach Simon Helmot for its intensive programme of the BCB-High Performance (HP).
The upcoming edition of the HP programme after being resumed in 2015 is scheduled to kick off June 1. BCB national selection panel began to select players for this comprehensive programme. This time they will pick a crop of 22 promising players from the domestic circuit like previous years.
Australian coach Simon Helmot will guide the team as the head coach, while local coaching staffs will support him. Along with them, some foreign experts will also work for them on temporary basis. Simon will join Bangladesh in due time and work as per his planning.
“A long term deal has been signed between Helmot and BCB. We had a contractual agreement with him. But he did not come last year. So, the board yet another penned papers with him for the next three years,” said BCB chief executive Nizamuddin Chowdhury.
“The HP training camp will be held with the participation of 22 players like the previous years. We hope the HP programme will start in the next June,” Nizamuddin told The Independent.
“You all get to see some specialist coaches in the programme. They all will work on short-term basis,” he added.
Keeping the next World Cup for the youth (U-19) team ahead, the BCB chief executive said that they have formulated a comprehensive plan for the development of the Bangladesh Under-19 Cricket Team.
ICC Under-19 World Cup is slated to be held in New Zealand in January, 2018.
“We’ve planned to appoint a foreign coach ahead of the World Cup. Our local supporting staffs, who are working for them, will support him,” he said, adding “Along with that, we’re trying to arrange a conditioning camp in New Zealand so that they could make their habituation in the bouncy and seam-friendly wickets and condition in their World Cup campaign.”
“Still we are working on that. Even we are talking with some countries for U-19 tours. A tri-nation series involving Bangladesh, India and Sri Lanka is in final stage. Hopefully we will tour in June to play the series,” he also told.
