A mobile court in Chittagong slapped a fine of Tk. 20,000 on a spice factory and sealed it off yesterday after it turned out that the workers were mixing red colour to fungus-infected white and rotten chilli powder to pass it off as fresh. The executive magistrate of Chittagong district administration, Mohammad Ruhul Amin, had heard allegations about the factory, which belongs to a man called Md Salauddin. To dig out the facts, Ruhul Amin conducted a drive yesterday at the factory in Barobkunda in Chittagong’s Sitakunda upazila. During the drive, he found out for himself that the workers were feeding the machine rotten and infected chillies, but it was churning out fresh-looking red chilli powder. Ruhul Amin said Salauddin has admitted the trickery. The mobile court fined the factory Tk. 20,000 and sealed it off.
