HC annuls IU’s decision to cancel ‘F’ unit admission test
The High Court on Monday declared the decision of Islamic University (IU)’s syndicate cancelling its ‘F’ unit (Mathematics and Statistics) admission test following an alleged question paper leakage illegal.
An HC bench comprising Justice Zubayer Rahman Chowdhury and Justice M Iqbal Kabir passed the order responding to a rule following a writ petition filed by 88 aggrieved students. Barrister Ruhul Quddus Kajal and Nusrat Yesmin Sumaiya argued for the petitioners while Attorney General Mahbubey Alam represented the state. On March 13, the High Court issued a rule over the decision of the IU syndicate cancelling its ‘F’ unit admission test. Talking to reporters, Kajal said the High Court declared the rule ‘absolute’, and that although some 88 students filed the petition, all 100 students who gained admission through the test will be accepted. The written admission test of ‘F’ unit was held on December 7 last year and a total of 100 students got enrolled in Mathematics and Statistics departments under the faculty. The university authorities formed a probe body following an allegation of the question paper leakage of the test. On March 6, the IU authorities cancelled the ‘F’ unit admission test and also suspended a teacher and two officers, and expelled a student over question paper leakage.
