The residential students of Al Beruni Hall (Extension) of Jahangirnagar University (JU) yesterday locked its office room demanding the immediate solution of several problems and mismanagement at the dormitory.
A group of general students gathered in front of the hall office and locked it at about 11 am,. Due to the students’ protests, the regular activities of this dormitory have stopped. The office room was under-locked till filing this report. No initiative has taken yet to unlock the hall office room to resolve this situation.
Students alleged that due to mismanagement including accommodation crisis, reconstruction, lack of take care and the lack of chairs, tables, beds at rooms, we have been suffering for a long time. However, the authorities did not take any visible action in this regard. On the other hand, the hall administration alleged that some BCL men, who have already completed their graduates, were creating unrest.
Source said, some BCL activists, led by Saddam Hossain, ex-deputy mass communication affairs secretary, locked the office. When contacted, Provost Prof Jashim Uddin said , ‘I did not get any complaint from the students yet, adding that some invalid students are trying to create unrest in the hall to press some invalid demands. Confessing the dilapidated conditions of the hall, he said that I also informed to the university authority to take initiative as its not new problem. However, denying this allegation, BCL activist Saddam Hossain said, “I have no involvement over this incident. The blame has risen against me is false”.
