Robi fined Tk 4.10 lakh for deceiving customers
Directorate of National Consumer Rights Protection (DNCRP) yesterday fined mobile operator Robi Tk 4.10 lakh for deceiving consumers through its internet packages.
The consumer rights regulatory body slapped the fine after it found proof against allegations by three Robi subscribers over its internet packages.
Shahin Ara Mamotaj, a deputy director of DNCRP imposed the fine.
A Robi customer named Sohag filed a complaint with the directorate on February 11, 2017 alleging that Robi deceived him in an internet package.
We fined mobile operator Robi a total of Tk 4.10 lakh after the body found evidence of deception by Robi upon investigating the consumers complaints, she added.
One of the Robi users wrote in his complaint that an SMS message was received in his mobile phone with an internet offer saying that consumers would get one and a half gigabyte internet package free of cost if they recharged Tk 98. But after recharge of the said amount, he was informed by a message that he got a 1 GB internet package.
When contacted Ekram Kabir, Vice-President of Communications and Corporate Responsibility of Robi Axiata Limited, told The Independent that they would cooperate with the regulatory body in line with their policies.
