Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) is mulling to revamp the structure of salaries for its contracted players in response to the request of the players, who have been pushing for a revamped structure of salaries and others since last few months.
The board will also finalise the matter of the match fees across all three formats for its contracted players, placed in three categories for the 2016-2017 season.
A total of 14 players are in the board’s current contract. They are Mushfiqur Rahim, Mashrafe Bin Mortaza, Shakib Al Hasan, Tamim Iqbal, Mahmudullah, Imrul Kayes, Arafat Sunny, Nasir Hossain, Mominul Haque, Taijul Islam, Rubel Hossain, Soumya Sarkar, Mustafizur Rahman, Al Amin Hossain.
Some of whom will be dropped and new performers will be included in the reshuffled structure of contract. Under the previous contract, A+ category player draws Tk 2.5 lakh, category ‘A’ receive Tk 2.0 lakh, while B get Tk 1.5 lakh, C Tk 1.25 lakh and D Tk 75,000 as salary. Along with that, a Test player gets 2.0 lakh, an one-day player receives one lakh and T20 players get Tk 75,000 as match fee. “Players requested us to increase their salaries and other facilities. So, we’ll have a proposal from the cricket operation but it has not finalized yet. We are discussing about it,” said BCB director and its operation committee chairman Akram Khan.
“Surely, it will be increased than the last year. But how much we will increase that is under discussion,” Akram told reporters media at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium (SBNCS) yesterday. “It is very difficult to say at this moment. We will give our decision after holding a discussion among us,” he added.
Considering players’ current source of income, the state of other boards, and other things, the board will finalise their decision, says the former skipper.
“If you look at the other boards you will get to see the number of contracted players is lesser. But it is 15-16 in Bangladesh. We have to think in two sides. If we contract more players then the comparison is not done. We’re increasing day by day. We’re not taking in our minds what the other boards are done,” Khan said.
“We are thinking not only the national players but also out of the national team’s players, who have been doing better in domestic circuit. We’ve also 80-100 more players under the board. Overall, we’re keeping players in comfort,” he also said.
“Those who are in the current national team will come under the board’s contract. If we increase more then the number of players will be reduced. So, it will be a matter of thinking for us. It is difficult to say without the board meeting,” he added.
When asked about how much they want to increase, the former skipper said that they will increase so that players could not think of depriving of their demands.
“As a player, it should not be lesser amount. We have to decide after doing some proper thinking. We are taking the matter of players from Afghanistan and Zimbabwe what they are getting from the board and what is their annual income. Actually we are thinking for it what is going on till now. Actually we will do so that players are not deprived of their demand,” he told in response to a query.
Drawing a comparison between the current players and the former players, Akram Khan said that it would not be right thing to make a comparison with the present and ex-players but they will make an attempt to please them with the increased windfall.
“The income source of the current players has been increased. They’re now playing in BPL, DPL and BCL like tournaments. Even some players got chance to play outside of the country. Now when they’re coming in cricket, they are doing other things,” he said, adding “In our time, there was no BPL, even there was not enough money in club cricket. Even we had no scope for doing other things.”
