Nazmul Hassan Papon, the president of Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), hinted that fresh blood has no possibility to make room in the national fold ahead of the ICC Champions Trophy.
“It is tough to include any new player in Champions Trophy squad,” said Nazmul Hassan yesterday.
“I can’t drop Tamim (Iqbal), Shakib (Al Hasan), Mushfiq(ur Rahim), Mahmudullah (Riyad). Even I can’t drop Imrul (Kayes), Mustafiz(ur Rahman) and Mashrafe (Bin Mortaza), who is captain of the team. Even I can’t drop Sabbir (Rahman), (Mehedi Hasan Miraj), Mosaddek (Hossain). All are the key players of the team,” Nazmul told a local television.
“We have enough players in pipeline. But we could not give chance anyone of them in this extravaganza event in place of them,” he added.
Former skipper Khaled Mahmud Sujon successfully supervised the Tigers as the team manager and brought success one after another. This time he will also guide them in the next Champions Trophy. Currently he is acting as head coach of Abahani Limited in ongoing Dhaka Premier League (DPL).
The BCB president said that he thinks the national interest is important more than the club.
“It’s a matter of national interest. He has to be there in Champions Trophy. He may not be in practice matches. But when the main match will be played there he has to be there with the team,” Papon opined.
Bangladesh will fly for England on April 26 to hold a 10-day preconditioning camp before heading for Ireland without ace all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan and paceman Mustafizur Rahman, who are now in Indian Premier League (IPL).
The duo is likely to miss the practice matches which will be played in Sussex at the times of 10-day preconditioning camp. Bangladesh will play two 50-over practice matches against Duke of Norfolk on May 3 and Sussex County Cricket Club on May 5.
“Shakib and Mustafiz may miss the practice matches in England before going to Ireland to play the tri-nation series,” the BCB boss said.
The tri-angular series will be played in Ireland with the involvement of New Zealand and the hosts Ireland and Bangladesh. It will kickstart on May 12.
