Mohammedan Sporting Club, who were virtually derailed from the title race, posted a 2-1 win over Soccer Club Feni in the Manyavar Bangladesh Premier Football League at the Bangabandhu National Stadium in the capital 2-1.
MSC extended their tally to 34 points from 17 matches to remain strongly in the race of clinching the runners-up trophy. Now they were eight away from the league leaders Sheikh Jamal who collected 42 points also after playing even number of matches. Now the traditional Black and Whites have only chance to win at least the runners-up trophy which they lifted last time in 2009 season and yet to grab the championship trophy of the Premier League since its inception in 2006.
However, Mohammedan predictably controlled the major part of the game and also produced better opportunities than Soccer Club. They opened the scoring on 10th minute.
Despite taking the early lead, Mohammedan could not capitalise the advantage to increase the tally in the first half on an uneven ground although opened spaces for three times.
Belinga Amabara, a forward of Cameroon put Mohammedan into lead when an Ismail Bangoura close range attempt was returned by Feni’s goalkeeper Ahsan Habib and the ball came to Belenga, who just tabbed the ball into an open net (1-0).
Soccer Club, a disciplined and organised side, who used to play very positive football game and give huge pain to every opponents, also played with similar tempo against the Dhaka giants and levelled the margin on 51st minute through Sohel Mea, who just took the advantage of a defense lapse before sending the ball into top corner of the post (1-1).
Soccer Club saw a setback when they were reduced to 10-man on 83rd minute as Sharman Hawladar got marching order for danger play.
Mohammedan snatched the match winning goal just a minute later. This time Ismail Bangoura headed home a Jewel Rana cross (2-1).
