The national cricketers continued their good form in the ongoing Walton Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League, much to the delight of the team management as the Tri-nation series in Ireland and ICC Champions Trophy in England is approaching fast.
Mushfiqur Rahim, one of the key batsmen in Bangladesh team struck a brilliant 134-run to lead Legends of Rupganj secure a comprehensive 68-run win over Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club at BKSP-4 ground. His century was complemented by Naeem Islam’s 103.
Mahmudullah Riyad made a whirlwind 52 ball-77 in Abahani Limited’s seven-wicket win over Partex Sporting Club at BKSP-3 ground. But the real hero of the match was youngster Nazmul Hossain Shanto who hammered a scintillating 101 not out.
Left arm spinner Arafat Sunny followed his five-wicket haul with a four for 45 against Brothers Union to guide Prime Doleshwar Sporting Club seal a four-wicket victory at Khan Shaheb Osman Ali Stadium.
Abahani vs Partex
Reigning champions Abahani Limited gave Partex no respite on their way to second straight victory in the league. After their bowlers restricted Partex to 234 for seven, the batsmen made the chase a cake-walk as they hunted down the target in just 38.3 overs, losing three wickets.
The openers however fared badly, to leave Abahani in precarious 43 for two. If Partex saw any chance of upset, it was quickly dashed by the calculative batting from Shanto, aided by a destructive Riyad. They combined for 150 runs off 113 balls to take the side on the verge of the victory.
Riyad smashed five sixes and as many fours in his quick knock before he was undone by Rajibul Islam. Shanto however remained firm and with the support of Mosaddek Hossain Saikat who was unbeaten on 23, he helped the side reach the target without any fuss. Shanto’s 109 ball-101 was designed by five fours and four sixes.
Even though the openers couldn’t give the side a big partnership, most of the batsman of the Partex’s middle order got the start but failed to carry on in the face of disciplined bowling of Abahani bowlers. No. 6 batsman Jubair Ahmed was the highest scorer of the side with 50 not out, while opener Sajjad Hossain scored 44. Saifuddin and Shuvagata Hom scalped two wickets apiece.
Legends vs Sheikh Jamal
Rupganj sealed the second successive victory, courtesy to a century from Mushfiqur Rahim and Naeem Islam. Opting to bat first, Rupganj lost the both openers inside third overs after which Mushfiqur and Naeem batted almost 38 overs to add 225 runs. It was broken by the dismissal of Mushfiqur Rahim who hit 14 fours and one six in his run-a-ball-134. Mushfiqur earlier in the first match scored an unbeaten 75 runs.
After the dismissal of Mushfiqur, Naeem completed his century and eventually was out on 103. However Legends of Rupganj eventually piled up 305 for five.
No batsmen of Sheikh Jamal even could hit a half-century and they never could threaten Rupganj to take away the match. Ziaur Rahman was the highest scorer with 42 and while opener Mahbubul Karim made 36. They were finally all out for 237 in 46.2 overs.
Doleshwar vs Brothers
Prime Doleshwar opener Imtiaz Hossain missed out a century by being out on 99 but his side snatched a four-wicket win over Brothers, by chasing the target of 247 with nine balls to spare. Imtiaz and his fellow opener Abdul Majid set the tone with an 87 runs partnership. Majid scored 45. Marshall Ayub was the other notable scorer with 33.
Earlier Arafat Sunny ruined the Brothers’ hope of setting a big target for Prime Doleshwar. Sunny claimed four for 45 in his 10 overs spell to deal the blow as Brothers were held back to 246 for nine. Their opener gave the side a solid start with 113-run partnership but Sunny’s cunning bowling meant they lost wicket at regular interval. Opener Junaid Siddique scored 87 for Brothers while his fellow opener Mizanur Rahman made 56.
Sunny was ably supported by the two wickets haul of Sharifullah and Enamul Haque.
