ROSATOM prefers local cos

Russian State Atomic Energy Corporation ROSATOM is preferring local manufacturers and suppliers for construction of Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant (RNPP) at Paksey in Pabna district, reports BSS. “We prefer Bangladeshi manufacturers and suppliers to be involved in the construction of the RNPP except the technical equipment,” Director purchasing, procurement and quality of Atomstroyexport, a subsidiary of ROSATOM, Alexander Shmigelskiy told the news agency yesterday. He said the materials as well as equipment would be of Russian standard as per the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), adding, “Technical equipment for the RNPP would be compliance standard as well as sustainable standard for environment.”
Alexander Shmigelskiy, also deputy general manager of the project, said Atomstroyexport, a general contractor of the RNPP, would go for open tender so that local manufacturers and suppliers can participate in the process.
“The main purpose of the conference is to inform Bangladeshi companies about possibilities of their participation in the Rooppur NPP project”, he added. In this regard, Atomstroyexport and Bangladesh Atomic Energy Commission (BAEC) held a conference on participation of the Bangladesh manufacturers/suppliers in the RNPP in the capital yesterday.
The agenda included design requirements during construction of the facility, tendering procedures and supply terms, logistics and equipment manufacture quality assurance.
Some manufacturers and suppliers took part in the conference and expressed their keen interest to supply materials for Bangladesh’s first nuclear power plant.
They raised different queries and got answers from the Russian officials about supply of the materials. According to the conference sources, it is necessary to select suppliers of construction materials and equipment, including sand, stone chips, crushes stone, concrete, reinforcement, low-pressure pipelines and rolled steel. Among others, Martynow, Kuchumov, Streltsov and Yashkov of nuclear related experts and officials from Russia presented various information and explained queries of the local manufacturers and suppliers in the conference, while Vijay Joshi, deputy Chief Executive of ROSATOM South Asia Marketing (India) Pvt Ltd joined it.
