Bangladesh team manager Khaled Mahmud Sujon is optimistic to fare well in the second Test match against South Africa if they could keep the ongoing momentum after losing two T20s and first ODI.
The Bangladesh manager told the media yesterday that they missed the opportunity despite staying on the brink of victory against the top-ranked Test team in Chittagong. But if we could minimize the number of mistakes alongside showcase their continual performance then they might get the result.
“Morale of all is quite good. We had started well though it has not happened due to rain. The result could have been gone in any direction. But we had a good opportunity to win the match,” said Khaled Mahmud Sujon at the Pan Pacific Sonargaon Hotel after returning to the capital from the Port City.
“We took lead against South Africa in the first innings. It was a matter of excitement that we contained them within 250. After winning the one-day series, we played well in Test. Considering all the aspects, the players morale are in high. Hopefully boys will also play well in Dhaka,” Sujon added.
He said that the next match against the No.1 Test team will also be challenging for us to get a good result.
“It should not be well to forget that South Africa is the best team in Test. It will definitely be challenging match for us to make the game competitive against them. They are so far the No.1 Test team in the world,” the team manager singles out.
“Their bowlers will try to keep us under pressure. They are more efficient than us in this format of game. We have to accept that we are behind them. But if we could play our best cricket and fight with confidence then it will be competitive match. Boys are hopeful about it,” he added.
Former skipper said that they have faith on their boys, who never bow down in front of the seam-attack in the pace-oriented track.
“Boys are confident to handle the attack of the fast bowlers. We have handled the fast bowlers in the pace-oriented surface of the Down Under. Boys are upbeat after the World Cup. Problem might be happened but it’ll not be the same like the past occasions. We are looking forward. Hopefully we will get a good wicket and play our best cricket,” Khaled Mahmud thinks.
About the wicket in Dhaka, Mahmud said, “We could not make comment on wicket at the moment. We’ve three days in hands to practice. We’ll get chance to see the wicket within this period. Captain and coach together will make the plan for the team after seeing the wicket. We’ve seen that we have got success from our game plan in the past. A new plan will be made keeping the new wicket in mind.”
“In every match, Bangladesh get down in the field for victory. We’ll also get down to win the next match. There are 15 sessions in Test, in which every session is important. We will try to move forward session by session. If we could apply our game plan and execute it in the ground then it is possible to do well,” he told media in reply to a query.
“It is needed for the players to extend their individual innings. Along with that, we have to try to build up big partnerships. Captain and coach will work on mistakes that we did it on the stroke of the last matches.”
“It is a technical matter. Captain, coach will talk about it. But I think the nature of wicket in Dhaka will be different. Boys are used to play in this wicket whatever the nature of the wicket.”
