A Barisal court on Sunday afternoon sentenced a man for killing his landlady.
The man was identified as Miraj Bepari, a tenant of the victim.
Rafikul Islam, judge of tribunal for preventing crime against public safety, handed down this verdict in presence of the convict Miraj Bepari.
The court also fined the convict Tk 20,000 or to serve more six months imprisonment in default.
Firoj Hossain, bench clerk of the court, said Miraj Bepari was a tenant of Nasima Begum of Khilgaon area of Dhaka.
Creating a good relationship he borrowed Tk 50,000 from his landlady in 2009 and leaving the house fled to his native village at Najirpur of Muladi upazila under Barisal district.
After realising the fact when Nasima contacted with Miraj for getting return of her money, Miraj invited her to come his home at Muladi.
After coming there Miraj strangled Nasima to death.
Abdul Hye, local village police, recovered the body of Nasima from Joyonti Riverbank on May 25, 2009 and lodged a case in this connection with Muladi police station.
Sub Inspector Sahabuddin, investigation officer of the case, submitted charge sheet against Miraj on June 10, 2010.
