Fisherman missing in Meghna

Fisherman Azad Mia, 35, of Charfassion upazila drowned after his boat capsized in the River Meghna in Daulatkhan upazila yesterday.
Sources said Azad Mia went missing after his small boat sank in high waves. Officer in-charge Khairul Kabir of Daulat Khan police station said police has launched a drive to recover the missing victim.
Kalapara Press Club election held

Kalapara press club election was held on Friday. Mejbah Uddin Mannu (daily Janokantho) and Mohsin Uddin (Ittefaq) were elected as president and secretary respectively.
An 11-member executive committee was also formed the same day. All members of executive committee, including president and secretary, were elected uncontested.
Teenage boy drowns

A teenage boy drowned in a pond at Char-Malithia village in Shailkupa upazila of Jhenidah yesterday on Sunday.
The deceased has been identified as Shohan Biswas, 14, son of Zafar Biswas of Char-Malithia village under same upazila. Police and family sources said Shohan was playing in the courtyard of his house in the afternoon. At one stage, he fell into a pond adjacent to his house. Later, his body was recovered from the pond.
One held with hemp

Members of Jamalpur Rapid Action Battalion in a drive arrested a drug peddler with hemp in Islampur upazila of the district yesterday.
According to RAB-14 sources, acting on a tip-off, a team of the elite force, led by company commander Mohammad Tajul Islam, raided Hargila Saheb Bazaar in the upazila and arrested Md Ferdous Ali,42 of Tartapara village. RAB members recovered 2.3 kilograms of hemp from his possession.
