Case filed over death of Maruf Kamals wife
A case of unnatural death has been filed with the Adabar police station over the death of Tania Khan, wife of BNP Chairpersons Press Secretary Maruf Kamal, after she died of burn injuries at Dhaka Medical College Hospital on Friday. Tania Khan, 47, was admitted to the Burn Unit of Dhaka Medical College (DMCH) on Thursday around 2:30am, said doctors at the unit. She succumbed to burns on Friday around 11:35pm at the High Dependency Unit (HDU) of the hospital.
An autopsy was carried out on Tania Khan on Saturday at the forensic medicine department of Dhaka Medical College. Family sources told police that Tania got burned while she was cooking food in a gas stove, said Durul Huda, sub-inspector of Adabor Police Station and the investigator of the case. Rifat Kamal Khan, son of the deceased, filed an unnatural death case with the police station yesterday. The identity of Tania as the wife of BNP chiefs press secretary was not disclosed either in the hospital or in the morgues record book, said a hospital source.
On 13 June 2014 Tania Khan had filed a case with the Mohammadpur Police Station accusing her husband of mentally and physically torturing her.
