State Minister for Posts and Telecommunications Tarana Halim yesterday said Facebook authorities have started blocking fake accounts using VIP names from a list sent by the government of Bangladesh (GOB), reports UNB. "We sent a list of some fake accounts using VIP identity to them (Facebook authorities). Now they are blocking the fake IDs. They are also deleting the fake IDs of Bangladeshis as part of the initiative," she said.
The junior minister said this while talking to reporters following reports that many Facebook users of Bangladesh could not open their account from Sunday morning.
She said Facebook authorities started the action against fake pages and accounts responding to the request of the government.
Responding to a question about the numbers of the fake IDs sent to the Facebook authorities, Tarana said they found huge numbers of fake IDs of VIP. We now should observe the other fake accounts."
At a press conference on April 10, Tarana said the Facebook authorities agreed to delete the fake accounts registered using the names of members of parliament (MPs) and VVIP personalities of Bangladesh.
On internet pricing, or price of bandwidth, she said the government has taken an initiative to provide the international terrestrial cable (ITC) link up at prices lower the than imported price.
The government also is going to take steps to provide internet service at low prices to customers, added Tarana.
