AL leader found in Noakhali

The body of a local Awami League leader, who had been missing since April 13, was recovered from the Meghna River in Hatia upazila of Noakhali district early yesterday.
The deceased was Baharuddin Sardar, 42, secretary of ward no. 6 of Charking union parishad Awami League.
Quoting party members, officer-in-charge of Hatia police station M Abdul Majid said,“Baharuddin went missing following a factional clash between two groups of the local Awami League at Bhairab Bazar in Charking area on Thursday.
“Later, his body was spotted floating on the Meghna River early Sunday. On information, police recovered it and sent to the morgue for autopsy.”
According to locals, there has been a long-standing dispute between the supporters of Hatia police station AL General Secretary and also the UP Chairman Mohiuddin Ahmed and AL district committee Senior Vice-President Mohammad Ali over establishing supremacy and tensions have been high in the area since the last UP elections took place on March 22, 2016.
According to locals, Baharuddin used to be the right-hand man of Mohammad Ali and Thursday’s clash was led by him.
When contacted, Mohammad Ali said the supporters of Mohiuddin killed Baharuddin and threw away his body into the river. “We want exemplary punishment for the killers,” he added. Denying the allegation, Mohiuddin said they have no idea what happened to Baharuddin or who killed him.
Road crash kills driver, helper
Natore: A truck driver and his helper were killed and an ambulance driver was injured in a collision between the two vehicles on Natore-Pabna highway in Kadamchilan area in Lalpur upazila yesterday noon, reports UNB.
Police and fire service sources said the truck plunged into a roadside ditch following its collision with a Dhaka-bound ambulance, leaving driver Farid and helper Sujon dead on the spot. The ambulance driver was injured in the accident.
Woman’s body recovered
OUR CORRESPONDENT, Manikganj
Police recovered the body of a middle aged woman from Boraid bazar at Borid village under Saturia Police Station in Manikganj district on Saturday.
The deceased was identified as Rahima Begum, 55, wife of late Taher Ali of Boraid village in Saturia upazila of the district.
Quting locals, officer-in-charge of Saturia police station Md Aminur Rahman, said Rahima went out of her house two days ago and since then she was missing.
On information, rushed to the spot and recovered the dead body from there. The body bore several injury marks on neck which make it seem that she was strangled to death, police sources said.
After killing the woman in other place criminals might have dumped the body at the spot. Police could not find out the reason behind the killing immediately. However, previous enmity might be the reason, the OC suspected.
