RAJSHAHI: State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shahriar Alam, MP, has called for collective efforts by all in preventing drugs addiction to protect the young generation from its deadly consequences, reports BSS. All the government and non-government organizations concerned including law-enforcers should come forward and work together to involve the community people in the anti-drugs campaign to make it a total success.
He was addressing a delegation meeting of Pakuria Union committee of Bangladesh Awami League on Kishorepur High School playground under Bagha upazila of the district on Saturday as chief guest. With local unit president of AL Abdus Samad in the chair, Arani Pourasabha Mayor Muktar Hossain, local Awami League leaders Babul Islam, Sirajul Islam Montu, Azizul Alam, Rakib Sarker and Merajul Islam also spoke.
Shahriar Alam urged the party leaders and workers to forge a social movement to combat this menace. He viewed all the drug addicts especially the intravenous drug users always suffer from mental sickness as drugs damage their body strengths and the central nervous system in particular.
Terming the drug-addiction a national problem, he said there is no alternative to create mass-awareness to address the problem. Awareness campaign through different media and training programs for law enforcement, healthcare and relevant NGO personnel in this regard are also progressing, he added.
