Around 120 small and marginal farmers got agricultural inputs as incentives for boosting aus and nerica paddy farming in Bagha Upazila of the district on Saturday, reports BSS. State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shahriar Alam, MP, distributed the inputs among farmers as the chief guest at a function at upazila auditorium.
The agricultural inputs included fertilizers like urea, dy-ammonium phosphate and muriate of potash and 15 kilograms of high yielding paddy seeds.The state minister also distributed corrugated tin sheet and Taka 2,000 in cash among 46 destitute families each as humanitarian assistance on the occasion.
Speaking on the occasion, Shahriar Alam said the present government has attained significant success in agriculture sector. In this context, he urged all officials concerned to put in their collective efforts to uphold the success in the days ahead. He said there was no need of importing rice in last eight years as we had adequate production to feed the nation. In some cases, we have exported rice to Sri Lanka and sent as relief to Nepal. The state minister said the role of agriculture sector is very crucial towards making the country’s economy functional alongside ensuring food security. He called upon the field level officials to discharge their duties with utmost sincerity and honesty.
