Chamber judge stays MP Ranas bail for 3 days

The chamber court of the Appellate Division yesterday stayed for three days a High Court order granting bail to ruling Awami League lawmaker Amanur Rahman Khan Rana in the freedom fighter Faruk Ahmed murder case. sChamber judge of the Appellate Division Justice Hasan Foez Siddique passed the order following a petition filed by the government for staying the HC order. The chamber judge also fixed April 18 for further hearing on the governments stay petition, as no lawyer for Rana was present during yesterdays hearing.
Attorney General Mahbubey Alam told reporters that MP Rana could not get release from jail following the chamber judges order. The apex court is likely order. The apex court is likely to pass its order on April 18, he added. Earlier, on April 13, the High Court granted ad-interim bail to ruling Awami League lawmaker Amanur Rahman Khan Rana in the freedom fighter Faruk Ahmed murder case.
The HC bench comprising Justice Miftah Uddin Choudhury and Justice ANM Bashir Ullah also issued a rule asking the government to explain why Rana should not be granted a regular bail in this case. Faruk, publicity secretary of Tangail district Awami League, was shot dead in front of his house in Tangail town on January 18, 2013. Three days after the murder, Faruks wife Nahar Ahmed filed the case with Tangail Model Police Station. Police, on February 3, 2016, pressed charges against 14 people including Rana and his three brothers in the case.
Amanur landed in jail on September 18, 2016 when he surrendered to a Tangail court in the murder case. He had reportedly been in hiding to avoid arrest since August 2014 when he was named by two detained accused in the case.
