Abahani off to Bangalore to play in AFC Cup

Sports Reporter

Abahani Limited left Dhaka yesterday to play their second away match of the ongoing AFC Cup competition when they will take on JSW Bengaluru, India tomorrow.

The Bangladesh Premier League Champions, who have already conceded defeats in their previous
two matches, will face very crucial encounter against Bengaluru team who are leading the Group E with full six points with winning their matches.
Abahani, who began their campaign with a 0-2 shocking defeat at the hands of Maziya Sports and Recreation Club of Maldives at home venue, suffered 0-3 defeat to Mohun Bagan of India that left them to a difficult equation to win rest of all four matches to move ahead.
Ultimately it will be the do or die match for them as there is no option left for them but to win the match to remain on the race.
However, the Bengaluru team are in very advantageous position with defeating Mohun Bagan, another Indian side in their opener, will look forward to stretch their lead to remain on the top of the group with winning the encounter at their home ground.
Abahani, in fact began the AFC Cup with huge setback when they could not play with their real squad as their key performers, Lee Tuck, Sunday Chizoba and four local booters – Ariful Islam, Tapu Barman, Hemanta Vincent and Jewel Rana left the club.
It was very much unfortunate for the Sky Blue of Dhaka when they had to play the first away match (second match of the competition) against Mohun Bagan without the central back Samad Yusuf, who could not go Kolkata due to visa difficulties.
Abahani manager Sattyajit Das Rupu informed yesterday that Samad’s visa is now under process, if it would be completed then he will fly today.
The match will take place at the Sree Kanteerava Stadium, Bengaluru, will kick off at 7 pm of local time.
