Stressing the importance of knowing the correct history of the Liberation War, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina yesterday said the prime aim of her government is to build the country based on the Liberation War spirit, reports UNB. This is very much important to know the real history of the Liberation War and the struggle of freedom... this is also urgent for building character, she said. The Prime Minster was inaugurating the newly constructed nine-storey Liberation War Museum (Muktijoddhu Jadughor) building at Agargaon in the capital. There was a time people were fed the distorted and tempered history...those who have grown up knowing the distorted history, theyve turned perverted, she said. Talking about the beginning of the distorted history in the country, Hasina said this era had begun after the assassination of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in 1975. She mentioned that primarily some people had thought that this was just hitting a family, but after some days they realised that it was not just attack on a family, but also capturing power. The prime aim of this killing was to destroy a spirit, Liberation War spirit.
The Prime Minister also said the hidden agenda of the killing got exposed further when the culprits assassinated the four national leaders in the central jail. After 1975, she said, the real history of the country had been distorted. Someone became proclaimer of the independence, one person blew the whistle and the Liberation War started... many kinds of history, imaginary history, and our real history was distorted in the process, she said. Talking about the extreme struggle of Bangabandhu to rebuild the war-ravaged Bangladesh after his return from Pakistani jail in 1972, the Prime Minister, also the elder daughter of Bangabandhu, said a section of people had started doing criticisms, writings against him soon after his arrival. She also mentioned that now it seems that a plot was crafted to stage the August 15, 1975 through these criticisms and writings. Those who had resorted to unnecessary strong criticisms prepared the stairs for the anti-liberation forces to come to power. The Prime Minister said the Liberation War Museum should uphold the Liberation War spirit so that the future generation could know how much sacrifices the nation has made to achieve independence. Hasina said she was involved in Muktijuddha Jadughar since 1995 when eight trustees planned to construct the Muktijuddho Jadughor and assured all-out support in this regard. She said her government has raised the monthly allowances for general freedom fighters to Tk 10,000 from Tk 900 as most of them arefrom poor families in rural areas. Besides, the government has undertaken a project titled Construction of houses for the Landless and Insolvent Freedom fighter involving over Tk 227 crore for the rehabilitation of freed fighters. Under the project, the construction of 1,958 units has already been completed. The Prime Minister also said 45 buildings out of 64 were constructed under the project titled Construction of District Muktijoddah Complex Bhaban.
Liberation War Affairs Minister AKM Mozammel, Trustee of the Museum and Cultural Affairs Minister Asaduzzaman Noor, Trustee of the Museum Zia Uddin Tarik Ali, among others, spoke on the occasion. The Prime Minister laid the foundation stone of the construction work of the museum in 2011.
