Worker dies after paper roll fall on him in capital
A worker of a printing press company died after a large roll of papers fell on him in the capital’s Shyampur area on Saturday.
Sources at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) said M Palash, 23, suffered injuries as the roll suddenly fell on him while working at the press ‘Dreamland Media’ in the evening. He was taken to the DMCH where doctors declared him dead around 7:45 pm.
The body was sent to DMCH morgue for autopsy, sub-inspector Bachchu Miah, also in-charge of the DMCH police camp.
Woman killed in road crash
An unidentified sexagenarian woman was killed as a speedy vehicle ran over her under the foot over bridge at Uttara in the capital on Saturday morning.
Sub-Inspector (SI) Jane Alam Dulal of Uttara Paschim Police Station an unidentified vehicle hit the woman, aged around 60, while she was trying to cross the road at around 8:15 am, leaving her dead on the spot. The body was sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) morgue for autopsy.
National Legal Aid Day on Apr 28
Country is all set to observe National Legal Aid Day on April 28 with the aim to raise awareness about providing judicial assistance to all.
“It is the fifth time that we are going to observe the day. We are going to hold a Meet the Press function at Supreme Court conference room on April 18 marking the day,” Advocate Titas Hellol Rema, member secretary of Supreme Court Legal Aid Committee, told BSS.
Chief Justice Surendra Kumar Sinha on September 8, 2015, officially inaugurated the Supreme Court Legal Aid Office. The Supreme Court Committee was comprised of 10 members and Justice Nizamul Huq was nominated as the chairman of the committee. Later two members were included in the committee as observers.
Huge ‘jatka’ seized in Ctg
Chittagong police along with the district and department of fisheries officials in a drive seized around seven tones of Jatka from Bay of Bengal Friday night.
Director of Fisheries Directorate MI Golzer said, acting on a tip-off, they conducted the drive from a trawler named MV Sea Power-4 and seized the jatka. Police seized the fishing trawler but the jatka businessmen fled from the scene.
Fair on conserving indigenous crops held in Rajshahi
Taking part in a daylong summer seed fair, more than 200 grassroots farmers both males and females exhibited around 75 varieties of indigenous seeds and plants of crops and vegetables in Rajshahi yesterday.
Disseminating their indigenous knowledge and expertise, the farmers unanimously viewed that they are still habituated to protecting and conserving the seeds and plants which are drought-tolerant and more or less adaptive to the changed climatic condition.
They mentioned that revival and promotion of the crops and vegetables could be vital means of food security side by side with protecting biodiversity in the present context of climate change caused by global warming.
Seminar on bird conservation
The inauguration of a 15-day long bird exhibition along with a seminar was held on Saturday in the Sufia Kamal Auditorium of Bangladesh National Museum (BNM).
Bangladesh Bird Club and National Museum jointly organised the exhibition titled 'Bangladesh, a Land of Birds' and a seminar. Adviser to Prime Minister for Energy, Power and Mineral Resources Dr Towfiq-e- Elahi Chowdhury attended the opening ceremony as special guest while Chairperson of the Board of Management of Bangladesh Shishu Academy Selina Hossain was present as special guest.
