Hero 4 Session

GoPro introduces smallest camera

FARHAN HAQUE

Meet the next generation of the GoPro action camera. It’s called the Hero 4 Session and it is 50 per cent smaller and 40 per cent lighter than GoPro’s flagship Hero 4 Black.
Now, you may ask how tiny it is. The Session is the size of an ice cube. It’s also waterproof, so you won’t have to lug around different cases to use the camera. Other GoPro cameras require several cases and accessories to survive a dip in the pool or a bounce on the floor.
This is part of the company’s efforts to reduce the amount of stuff needed to use a GoPro camera.
The Hero4 Session also introduces a dual microphone setup that auto switches between the two when one detects too much wind or noise. This configuration means that audio shouldn’t be as muffled.
The new microphone system works similarly to human ears. A membrane drains water that’s trapped in the microphones, and this happens crazy quick: just a second or two.
However, there are some trade-offs. The camera lacks 4k recording capability, found in GoPro’s high-end models. It also lacks a replaceable battery but makes up for it with smart power controls. You can turn on the camera and it will start recording, by hitting the top button and hit it again and the camera stops recording.
Lastly, the Session has a top mounted LCD status screen. It’s tiny but that’s okay. The small screen displays the camera’s mode, battery life, and connection status. The tiny screen is limited to just a few functions and forces owners to use the GoPro smartphone app to change general camera settings.
The Hero4 Session mounted to The Strap, GoPro’s latest mount design.
In conclusion, The Session is the GoPro to buy. The video quality is great and more importantly, it’s the easiest to use. But it’s expensive at $400.]
