Negligence of duty

Chief executive Engineer Afsar Uddin of Water Development Board (WDB) in Sunamaganj has been withdrawn due to negligence of duty in constructing and repairing embankments in haor areas.
Engineer Afsar was withdrawn from Sunamganj and attached to the WDB head office in Dhaka on Saturday following the demands of haor people for his removal, WDB Director General Jahangir Kabir told UNB.
They will take action against him if the allegations brought against him are proven, he said.
Different organisations, including Haor Rokkha Andolon (movement to protect wetlands), Bangladesh Krishok Samity and Bangladesh Khetmojur Samity, have been staging demonstrations to have several demands met, including the compensation and rehabilitation of the affected farmers of the haor regions and the punishment of BWDB officials and its contractors for constructing weak dam, for several days.
