9 held with 20 lakh yaba tablets in Ctg

Members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) early yesterday in a drive arrested nine people and seized 20 lakh pieces of contraband yaba tablets in the Bay of Bengal.

The elite force also arrested the ring leader Mojaher of yaba smuggling group of Anwara-Gohira area and the boat which was carrying the drugs also seized, said Lt Col Miftah Uddin, Commanding Officer, RAB-7.
However, the identity of the rest of eight could not be known immediately.
 “Acting on tip off, we have conducted a drive at several points of the Bay at 5:30am and intercepted a fishing trawler and seized the yaba worth Tk 80 crore and arrested nine people, “said Miftah Uddin.
“Mojaher is the ring leader of the southern part of Chittagong. He is controlling the yaba smuggling gang here. He is destroying our youths, however, his one son is studying in Australia and other is studying in England,” said Miftah.
BSS adds from Dhaka: Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crimes (CTTC) unit of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has arrested a person and recovered 50 thousand yaba tablets, 100 grams of heroin and five bullets from his possession.
"A special team of CTTC detained SM Shafikur Rahman, 45, from West Panthapath area under Kalabagan Police Station in the capital at around 9:35 pm yesterday," a DMP release said. 
According to the police, Shafikur is originally from Gohira village under Anwara Police Station in Chittagong and profession is an arms and drugs trader. A case was filed with local police in this regard.
