An alleged drug dealer and his driver were shot dead at Nimtala in Jessore’s Chaugachha upazila early yesterday. The police and the duo’s relatives claimed they died in a gunfight with other criminals.
Axar Ali, 45, the alleged drug trader, was the son of Abdus Sattar of Baro Kabilpur. His driver Saidur Rahman, 35, was the son of Abdus Samad of Biswaspara in Chaugachha upazila. M Moshiur Rahman, the OC of Chaugachha police station, said the duo was killed in a ‘gunfight between two groups of criminals’ at Nimtala early yesterday. Police took them to Jessore General Hospital as unidentified victims with bullet wounds. "Axar Ali was an accused in 21 cases," he added.
Atiar Rahman, the chairman of Dhuliani Union Council in Chaugachha upazila, too, said Axar Ali was a notorious drug dealer.
