Minhajul Abedin Nannu, selection panel chairman of Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), Wednesday said that the fast bowlers will get top priority in their next important international campaigns in Ireland and England.
Bangladesh will fly for England on April 26 to hold their 10-day-long preconditioning camp in Sussex ahead of their triangular series and ICC Champions Trophy.
During their stay in Sussex, they will play two practice matches, the first of which will be played against Duke of Norfolk on May 3 and the second against Sussex County Cricket Club on May 5.
Since then, Tigers will head for Dublin to play the triangular series with the hosts Ireland and New Zealand, the tournament which will be kickstarted with the match between Bangladesh and Ireland at Malahide, Dublin on May 12. It will continue till May 24.
Bangladesh will then travel England again in the last week of May for Champions Trophy.
Nannu came up with the remarks when he went to Bangladesh Krira Shikkha Prothisthan (BKSP) to witness the opening day’s matches of the Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League.
“The conditions in Ireland and England will be seam-friendly. Considering it in minds, we are focusing more on fast bowlers,” said Minhajul Abedin yesterday.
“This time we will take some more additional players with the main contingent, where we will take extra pace bowlers and experienced batsmen,” Minhajul told reporters.
He also said that they will announce Tigers squad for the tri-nation series and ICC Champions Trophy on April 19.
“We will declare Bangladesh squads for these two big tournaments on April 19. We will take some additional pace bowlers with the team. As it will be a longer tour, along with that, we have practice camp, so we have to keep them ready for these events,” the selection panel chairman said.
In last ODI series in Sri Lanka, Bangladesh took five fast bowlers with the team. Pace prodigy Mustafizur Rahman, Taskin Ahmed, Subashis Roy and Rubel Hossain were remained with skipper Mashrafe Bin Mortaza in pacers’ department. But this time young pacer Mohammad Saifuddin alongside Shafiul Islam even Kamrul Islam Rabbi might be toured with the team.
