State Minister for Power and Energy Nasrul Hamid has urged the private entrepreneurs to come forward to invest in the transmission segment of the country’s power sector, reports UNB.
"We have received private investment in generation segment.
Now we want to see private sector investment in the transmission segment," he said, while addressing a contract signing ceremony at Biddyut Bhaban in the capital yesterday.Local Summit Group signed a power purchase agreement (PPA) with the state-owned Power Development Board (PDB) to set up a 149 MW power plant at Kodda of Gazipur.
The group's subsidiary Summit Ace Alliance Power Ltd will install the dual-fuel power plant as an independent power producer (IPP) on build-own-operate (BOO) basis in the next 18 months.
The PDB will purchase electricity from the plant for next 15 years at a tariff of Tk 7.15 per kilowatt hour when the plant will run using furnace oil and Tk 2.80 when it runs on gas. An Implementation Agreement (IA) was also signed between Summit and the Power Division for construction of the plant, he added.
The signing ceremony was also addressed by Power Secretary Dr Ahmed Kaikuas, PDB chairman Khaled Mahmud and Summit Group chairman Mohammad Aziz Khan.
