GAIBANDHA: Midday meal programme was launched at Satarpara Govt. Primary School under Betkapa union of Palashbari upazila of the district yesterday amid much enthusiasm to all, reports BSS.
Office sources said a DO (demi official) letter signed by Abul Kalam Azad, Principal Secretary to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, was received by the district administration a few months ago.
In the letter, the principal secretary asked the district administration to introduce midday meal programme in the primary schools located at rural areas of the district to ensure 100 percent enrolment and check the dropout rate of the students.
Principal Secretary also said to introduce the midday meal programme is the desire of the Prime Minister and in this context, he sought whole hearted cooperation of all the well-off section and solvent men of the society.
A simple function was also held on the school premises on Tuesday afternoon with Mostafizur Rahman, chairman of the school managing committee (SMC) in the chair.
Deputy Commissioner (DC) M. Abdus Samad addressed the function as the chief guest. Upazila Nirbahi Officer Tofazzal Hossain, district primary education officer M. Aminul Islam Mondal, upazila primary education officer Abduallahis Safi, UP chairman Fazlul Karim and head teacher Umme Mahbub Khanam spoke at the function, among others.
