DU set to celebrate Pahela Baishakh
Dhaka University (DU) authorities have chalked out elaborate programmes to celebrate the Pahela Baishakh, the first day of the Bangla Calendar Year 1424, on April 14.
Different departments, institutes and organisations of the university have undertaken separate programmes to celebrate the day with much enthusiasm, said a DU release yesterday.
With the theme ‘Anandaloke Mangalaloke Biraja Satya Sundar", DU Fine Arts Faculty will bring out the traditional Mangal Shobhajatra from its premises at 9 am on the campus with a call for unity and non-communalism. DU Vice-Chancellor Prof AAMS Arefin Siddique will lead the procession. Earlier, a musical function organised by DU Music Department will start at Battala in front of Arts building on the campus. Jatiya Sangsad Chief Whip ASM Feroz, MP, DU VC Prof AAMS Arefin Siddique, Pro-VC (administration) Prof Dr Akhtaruzzaman and Arts Faculty Dean Prof Abu Md Delwar Hossain will be present in the function, the release added. Besides, the university authorities have taken a foolproof security measures to make the Pahela Baishakh celebration programmes a success.
In a preparatory meeting of Pahela Baishakh celebration committee, the university authorities have put restriction on wearing of masks, carrying bags on the campus. Hawkers will not be allowed to do business on the campus, the release said. All programmes marking the day on DU campus must end by 5pm, it said.
Except for vehicles carrying DU stickers, other vehicles will not be allowed in the university from 7pm on April 13 while all kind of vehicular movement will be suspended on the campus on April 14. The university community members would be allowed to go through the gates adjacent to Nilkhet and Palashi crossings only by their own vehicles, it added.
Photography exhibition held at AIUB
The photography club of American International University- Bangladesh (AIUB) organised a 4-day ‘3rd National Photography Exhibition’ titled ‘Tale of the Dark Room’ held recently in Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy. This exhibition showcases the work of amateur photographers across Bangladesh, reflecting their passion, culture, creativity and skill.
Pro-Vice Chancellor of AIUB Prof Dr Charles C Villanueva inaugurated the exhibition and delivered vote of thanks to the organiser, participant, then he visited photo exhibition gallery. 133 versatile images from 87 brilliant individuals were selected for the exhibition, from amidst an overwhelming response of over 5500 submissions from around 650 photographers hailing from different parts of the country.
Saud Al Faisal, Professional Photographer and Founder Member of ‘Through The Lens: Bangladesh’, Mishuk Ashraful Awal, Faculty Member, Department of Photography, Pathshala South Asian Media Institute, Kudrat E Khoda, Conservative Photographer, Professional Photographer & Curator also present in the opening ceremony.
